Sustainable Functioning with ADHD

Structured support for reflective adults who want to function well

without constant pressure, overwhelm or exhaustion.

The Cost of ADHD

Many adults with ADHD are intelligent, capable, and thoughtful.

Outwardly, they often function well enough. Inwardly, they are working too hard to do so.

Over time, this can lead to:

  • a sense of “coping, but at a cost”

  • cycles of over-effort followed by withdrawal, avoidance or shutdown

  • difficulty sustaining attention without pressure

  • persistent self-criticism and doubt

  • even a chronic sense of overwhelm

This work is for adults who want to function sustainably,

not by pushing harder, but by learning how attention, energy, and self-regulation actually work for them.

The focus of this work

This is not productivity coaching and it is not trauma therapy.

The focus is on:

  • understanding how ADHD shows up in your nervous system

  • recognising early signs of overload and attentional collapse

  • working with attention rather than fighting it

  • developing realistic, humane structure

  • reducing self-attack and internal pressure

  • building trust in your own signals and limits

The emphasis is on containment, clarity, and steadiness rather than optimisation or performance.

How I work

The work is:

  • structured

  • time-limited

  • clearly scoped

Sessions are focused and practical, with space for reflection but without emotional flooding or open-ended exploration.

I work in defined packages rather than ongoing, indefinite therapy. This helps keep the work grounded, predictable, and sustainable — for both client and practitioner.

Sessions are conducted online.

Who this work is for

This work is particularly suited to:

  • adults with diagnosed or strongly suspected ADHD

  • often late-diagnosed

  • thoughtful, self-aware, and reflective

  • outwardly functioning, inwardly under pressure

  • looking for steadiness rather than constant self-management

Who this work is not for

This work is not suitable for:

  • crisis support

  • active trauma processing

  • open-ended therapeutic work

If trauma becomes the dominant issue, I will help you think about appropriate next steps and referral options.

Please note, also, that although this work does tend to enable greater effectiveness and productivity this is not the focus.
